Description
Eldercare Sash Ferguson began as the The Mount Barker and District Homes for the Aged, founded in 1970 by a group of community minded people, including members of the Apex and Rotary Clubs of Mount Barker.

In 2003 the facility was incorporated with Eldercare and the building was extended. Sash was further upgraded in 2012.

Sash Ferguson is located close to the main street of Mount Barker. There is a small shopping centre, with cafes and a supermarket a short walk away from the facility.

Eldercare has three retirement living locations within Mount Barker, with one co-located with Sash Ferguson. This enables some residents to have their spouses living in close proximity.

Sash has large, park-like grounds, and a secure area is available for residents of our specialist memory unit. The grounds of the facility are carefully landscaped, consisting of rose gardens and garden beds filled with bulbs, seasonal flowers and a range of plants.

The facility is strongly aligned with the Adelaide Hills Community Health Service at Mount Barker Hospital.

Meals are cooked onsite daily by a chef. A continental breakfast is provided Monday - Saturday, with a cooked breakfast offered on Sundays. There is a choice of two courses for lunch and three courses for evening meal.

Sash Ferguson is strongly grounded in the local community, and has strong links with community organisations, churches and business. Our staff, volunteers and residents participate in community events such as the Mount Barker Show, Mount Barker Christmas Pageant and barbeque fundraisers.

Intergenerational programs are conducted with local schools and child care centres, with children visiting frequently to meet residents, assist in lifestyle programs and undertake work experience. Mount Barker TAFE offers school-based apprenticeships and placements through Sash.

Sash has a large and enthusiastic volunteer network.

A comprehensive range of lifestyle activities are regularly offered. These range from concerts and entertainment, music and sing-alongs, craft and gardening activities, pet therapy, communal birthday celebrations, cooking group, internet kiosk, gentle exercises and fun and physical games. We also celebrate cultural days and have a couple of large, special events each year. Residents and family members are all welcome to attend.
